Upper Hand 2017 - A Year in the Life

2017 has been a year for the record books at Upper Hand and we are so glad to have shared it with some incredible coaches, fitness trainers and sports facility owners across the nation.

From the launch of Upper Hand 2.0 and our mobile app in early 2017, to the addition of major features such as Point of Sale and Memberships, our team has been bringing customer feedback to life this year, to ensure businesses have the custom tools they need, built for the unique demands of the sports industry. Here are some of the highlights!

FEB.pngUpper Hand 2.0  |  We started the year with the greatly-anticipated launch of Upper Hand 2.0 in February, changing the way coaches and facilities do business. Upper Hand 2.0 brought customers a completely revamped product, built with feedback from top sports facilities, training academies and coaches across the U.S. Along with the industry leading sports management platform, 2.0 positioned Upper Hand to quickly adapt and add to our wide range of 2.0 features such as the all new event creation and smart scheduling, as well as the iOS and Android mobile apps for better managing on-the-go.

Following the launch we continued to make major advancements throughout the year adding game-changing features to the Upper Hand platform as well as growing and developing our team!

Advanced Reporting  |  In March, our engineers added Advanced Business & Financial Reporting tools to the Upper Hand playbook to help coaches better maintain clients and grow revenue. Advanced reporting tools provide insights to drive future revenue and client satisfaction at training academies and fitness facilities.


APRIL.pngOur HQ Space |  Upper Hand was proudly voted Best Tech Space 2017 in one of the first ever People's Choice categories for the Tech Point Mira Awards! We are full of team spirit at Upper Hand and we are so proud of the ways in which we have built the Upper Hand core values and passion for sports into our office space.

Geo Reporting  |  
In June, we launched new contact reporting for customers to maximize event participation, through instant insights into the location of their clients. Geographic density details open the door for trainers to make informed event location decisions.


JULY.pngPoint of Sale |  The Point of Sale feature launched in July and has made it easier than ever for sports businesses to register clients over the phone or on the spot at an event. This is a game changer when it comes to day-of registration at a sports camp, or running the front desk at a facility.

 

AUGUST.pngCapital Raise  |  We reached a capital raise milestone with another major investment from Elevate Ventures, as well as continued investment from former Finish Line executives in August. The investments brought Upper Hand’s funding total up to $2.4M since 2014.

Upper Hand Board  |  Along with the capital raise, we realigned our Board of Directors from nine to five Directors. The changes to the Board included the appointment of Don Courtney who currently sits on the Board for SmarterHQ.

SEPT.pngSports Podcast |  In September, we launched the Upper Hand Sports Podcast to bring coaches and trainers together, building a network of advice on running a sports business. Episodes feature top coaches, athletic trainers and business owners talking about what they love about working with athletes, what they've learned from years of experience and how they're taking advantage of current sports industry trends to grow. 

Staff Additions |  We also welcomed new staff members to our team in September. Along with new sales team members, we added an additional web designer to the Upper Hand team, bringing our customers sleek, custom-built websites, faster than ever!

Memberships
  |  
In early fall we launched the all new memberships feature as a part of our Pro and Scale packages. This robust, custom membership creation is allowing customers to build membership types based on what their sports facility has to offer.

 

nov.pngClient Experience Major design improvements in our platform aimed to enhance the client experience for athletes and parents. Upper Hand's success team is proud to boast a 98% satisfaction rate for 2017, putting our team 3 points ahead of the industry average. Design and navigation updates made in November will only continue to increase these ratings, keeping our customers and their clients satisified. 

 

And of course, like every year, 2017 was full of team building and bonding as we shared our passion for sports here in the Indy area. Pacers games, rec leagues and some great sports tech talks and programming. We are excited to dive into the new year with our Upper Hand fam! Get to know the team here!
